Montenegro, which will soon become an EU member, offers very favorable conditions for foreigners seeking a residence permit. So those who want to live in the EU in the long term, have recently chosen Montenegro. Montenegro offers a low income tax rate (9%), which makes the country very attractive especially for the investors doing international trade.
Montenegro‘s visa policy is similar to the Schengen region. Citizens of Schengen countries are allowed to stay in the country without a visa for 90 days and citizens of other countries are required to obtain a C type visa for short term visits and a D type visa for long term accommodation.
If you intend to spend more than 90 days in Montenegro (30 days for citizens of some countries) you must apply for a temporary residence.
Temporary Residence Permit is valid only for citizens of countries that have the possibilty visa-free entry to Montenegro. Foreigners who are considering staying in Montenegro for more than 90 days may be granted a residence permit for the following reasons:
* Employment and business, realizing economic or entrepreneurial activity;
* Seasonal works;
* Education;
* Real Estate ownership;
* Participation in international exchange students programs or other youth programs;
* Vocational training;
* Scientific research;
* Humanitarian missions;
* Treatment;
* Family union;
* Other justified reasons specified by law or international agreement.
Buyers who are foreign nationals, regardless of value, may obtain a one-year residence permit based on the property of a property in Montenegro. Permission can be renewed annually. Permission can only be taken by the owners of houses, apartments, commercial units, hotels, restaurants and holiday homes.
A permanent residence permit in this country is possible after five years of permanent residence. Citizenship can be obtained after five years (or three years after marriage with a citizen of the country). For a residence permit, you should first apply to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Consulate of Montenegro or the Consulate of Montenegro abroad.
